I first met Mel in the 5th grade at Whittier elementary. Our paths would cross 5 years later at Cyprus. Although I had not seen him for 50 years, we reconnected on Facebook just recently. He regretted not making it to the last class reunion. He was a good man and will be missed. R.I.P. Mel.

RIP Mel Hadfield. In 1964, 65, and 66 Mel was a very important part of Cyprus High School Football. He also earned a Purple Heart in Vietnam. Like I started this post RIP my friend, teammate, pirate, and warrior.

Mel Hadfield was a great competitor in both football and baseball. In baseball I caught all his pitching outings, high school and American Legion.
Mel had a wicked fastball and an overhand curveball that made batters jump out of their shoes. I'm glad I had the chance to play baseball with Mel. Rest in peace Big Guy.............

I have been waiting to see Mel Hadfield's obit, since I heard of him passing. I didn't know Mel very well at school, but knew of him after we both returned from Viet Nam. Mel made sure our High School reunions gave credit to those of us who served in Viet Nam, thosse who were wounded, as well as those who didn't come home. I for one appreciated that very much and will always remember him for that. RIP Mel.
